The Best Cold Press Juicer Reviews: Confused? We’ve You Sorted

juicingIs there anything more healthful than starting the day with a glass of freshly made juice in your own home? Many of the juices on the shelves of stores around the developed world claim to be ‘detoxifying’ or ‘cleansing’ when in fact they are laced with sugar and lots and lots of other icky stuff.

In order to avoid these processed ingredients getting into your juice (and therefore into your gut), you should juice at home. It is guaranteed to be more healthy, more fresh, and tastier! Honestly, it really is a lot tastier than those packaged juices that may have been sitting there for too long.

Educate Me! What Kinds of Juicer Are There?

Ok, there are A LOT of models out there right? It can be incredibly overwhelming to choose the right model to suit your needs. Some might be insanely cheap but look sleek only to break the next week, and some are very expensive so you think you’re getting the best of the bunch, when really what you get is a noisy grunting behemoth.

You need to get the right info. Here at Juice The Juice our only concern is your decision to improve your health and life by juicing. That’s why we’re here! We have tried all of these models and we know the ins and outs of them. I (Sharley) have been juicing for about 8 years now and am healthier and happier than I ever have been previously.

Anyway, enough about me. Before we get into the best cold press juicer reviews further down, it’s important to note that there are different types of juicer out there.

Centrifugal Juicer

This form of juicer works off a number of different parts, but focuses on a centrifuge/chute where you put in the produce, and a flat blade at the base that spins at a very high speed to crush and pulp the fruit and vegetables as they go in. These are the most popular types of juicer on the market because they are cheap and convenient.

We have more detailed articles on centrifugal juicers below.

Cold Press Juicer

A cold press juicer uses a chewing and grinding technique to juice the produce rather than the high speed blade. It is also known as a masticating juicer, or a slow juicer. It doesn’t really matter what you call it, just know that it is not a centrifugal juicer.

For clarity, if you see the words ‘masticating juicer’, ‘slow juicer’ and ‘cold press juicer’, they are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing.

We have more detailed articles on these below.

So, What’s The Difference Other Than The Way They Make Juice?

Well, a centrifugal juicer is going to produce juice faster than a cold press juicer. You can shred and pulp an entire juice in less than a minute with a centrifugal juicer, whereas with a cold press you will be waiting longer as the juice extraction period is slower (hence the term ‘slow juicer’).

Ok, I’ll just get a centrifugal juicer then! Quicker is better, right?

Wrong.

There are lots of AMAZING centrifugal juicers out there, but all in all, they aren’t better. The high speed of the blade foams and oxidates the produce as it’s being juiced. Ever bitten into an apple and left it for a short while only to come back to it brown? That is the oxidation process.

When the blade lashes through the fruit and vegetables, it creates heat and oxidation, which gets rid of some of the nutrients and enzymes present in the fruit or vegetable when it’s in its juiced form.

Because of this, centrifugal juicers tend to be much cheaper in general than cold press juicers.

Centrifugal juicers are a lot noisier than cold press juicers. Think of it – a fast moving blade will be a lot louder than a slower chewing mechanism that the masticating juicer will get.

The juice you get from a slow juicer is going to last longer than the juice you will get from a fast juicer. This is because the juice doesn’t become oxidated nearly as easily as it should, and therefore will last longer in the refrigerator.

From these points, the conclusion is obvious: if you can afford it monetarily and time-wise, a cold press juicer is definitely the better option. However, if you’re just looking to get started in juicing and don’t know if you’re going to be at it long-term (although you really SHOULD be!) then we have a pretty comprehensive guide on the top centrifugal juicers around.

Although a cold press juicer is pricier at the beginning, imagine the amount you will save on buying juice! I CRINGE when I see how much these juices go on the market, as they are really processed, cheap imitations of what you can get at home for a fraction of the price!

The Best Cold Press Juicer Reviews: The Definitive List

We have searched high and low and tested like lab rats to come to the conclusion of finding the very best cold press juicers for our readers. The following list is OUR opinion, and it may not be the best one for you, but you can be 100% sure that all of these are quality models that are worth both the price-tag and the investment that you will give it.

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating JuicerThis will always be number one for us, although it isn’t the absolute best out there.

Sounds weird, right?

Well, we’ll tell you why. The J8004 is an incredible juicer for its price. Yeah, it’s not the absolute best out there, but who cares when it is NEARLY the very best juicer out there and is a lot cheaper than it’s competitors!?

You know that you are going to get flawless quality with an Omega. They are the best known brand for slow juicers on the planet, and for good reason. They just consistently churn out quality. Their track record is unsurpassed, and it is this expertise that has allowed them to produce such an incredible appliance at such a fair price.

Essentially, it’s horizontal augur system removes as much juice as possible from the produce you put into it. It will get to every nook and cranny. When you get to cleaning out the pulp, you will immediately see how incredibly dry it is. This is because it is extracting all the good bits for your juice! What a dream.

Is the J8004 and J8006 Different? Everyone Goes With The J8006

This is something that has been a bee in our bonnets for a long time. You will see other sites detailing that the J8006 is superior to the J8004, but this is simply NOT TRUE and we will tell you why below. Listen carefully.

Basically, the Omega J8004 will give you a healthier, tastier and fuller juice than the vast majority of juicers out there. It’s a wonderful machine. You may be wondering what is the difference between the J8006 and the J8004. Other than the price tag, it is NOTHING! I swear to you, there is no difference between the models aside from the colour. The J8006 comes in chrome. People love chrome, it makes it look more solid and secure. The prices on the white machine (J8004) are slightly lower, but you will get the same quality of juice from both. There literally is no difference.

That said, if you want the chrome, get the J8006 for sure, but we’re mentioning them BOTH here as our Number One because they’re the same machines with a different finish. Simple as that.

Breville BJS600XL

Breville BJS600XLThis comes as a close second. Breville are a household name when it comes to juicers, but they only focus on centrifugal juicers. They have, until now, not delved into the world of masticating juicers. The BJS600XL is a great first foray into the world of slow juicers for Breville.

This juicer is a vertical model. We usually only go for the horizontal models here as they tend to be better for the most part, but this is a great vertical machine.

The filter of this model is wonderful. It removes all of the difficulty and hassle of cleaning the machine, and also ensures that you will get as much juice as humanly possible out of the fruit and veg that you throw in there.

However, our absolute favourite thing about the Breville BJS600XL is the ultra-quiet, yet beastly motor. It has a 240W motor, which is an absolute weapon. It will deal with anything you throw in there. It’s amazing! However, this beast is a quiet beast. It’s SO QUIET! Usually, we would prefer a lower volume motor that takes longer to juice than a faster louder model, but here it just isn’t an issue. It is so super powerful and so super quiet. AMAZING!

Breville, thank you. Thank you very much. This is a breakfast juicer’s dream if you have a family you don’t want to be waking up early in the morning.

New Generation Juicer by SKG

SKG Wide Chute Anti-Oxidation Slow Masticating JuicerThis is a super quick and reliable juicer. It will juice your produce faster than the vast majority of masticating juicers and it also yields a very impressive amount of juice for the speed.

This is mainly due to the absolute powerhouse of a 240W motor. All of the parts that make up this beast are as modern as can be, and the machine itself looks absolutely dazzling. You will notice that it gives your kitchen an extra touch of class and pizzazz by its very presence.

The chute is 3 inches long, meaning that you can fit more in one go than most other juicers of this category. The speed usually oscillates at in and around 60RPM. This is quite slow overall, but it still works super fast. This is a bit odd, as we haven’t seen this correlation in any other juicers, but there ya go! Somethings don’t need an explanation if they just work.

Along with the wide chute is a very impressive anti-clogging resistance. Firstly, you won’t get much clogging at all with this model, but the small amount that you may suffer will simply be reversed by clicking the reverse rotation button for a few seconds. It will easily and clearly become unclogged. Move along now, nothing to see here!

What you will really love about this model is the absolute lack of prep-work that goes into the juice. The speed setting ensures that you get all the best enzymes and nutrients that are required for such a top of the range juicer. Honestly, you won’t be complaining about the yield of this juice, nor will you be complaining about the foaminess. It is a perfectly manicured cup every time.

This juicer will pay for itself many times over. I know we KEEP going on about yield, but this bad boy will get (on average) 80% from an orange, 82% from a pear, 74% from an apple, 68% from celery, and 44% from a carrot. This is incredible yield percentages and much better than you’ll find in your average masticating juicer, let alone centrifugal juicers.

Tribest Green Star Elite GSE-500

Green Star Elite GSE-5000 Jumbo Twin Gear Juice ExtractorThis is slightly more expensive than the others on the list above it, and so that is why it isn’t number one. However, it is worth the heftier price tag. This is a real top-of-the-line machine. It’s a luxury product that will literally sort out all of your juicing needs for the foreseeable future.

You can put any fruit or vegetable in here, as per usual, but it can also deal with herbs, grains and pretty much whatever you want to throw at it.

This juicer’s unique selling point is the fact that you will be able to store juice made from this appliance for days. It has an incredibly low rate of oxidation and so it will keep in the refrigerator for much longer than juice made from other machines. This is due to its exceptionally high yield and small amount of pulp. The little amount of pulp that you may find will be exceedingly dry, showing its quality for extracting all the goodness out of the fruit and veg that it masticates.

Although it extracts a great deal of juice, the speed is actually rather fast. It spins at approximately 110RPM most of the time, and this means that you get a fully extracted juice for less amount of wait time than you moight expect!

Overall, if you’re looking for the cream of the crop when it comes to juicing machines, and have the money to spend, this will not set you wrong at all. It is so so so SO good.

Hurom’s HU-100 Masticating Slow Juicer

Hurom’s HU-100 Masticating Slow JuicerOk, another one that is on the expensive side, but that is thankfully where the negatives end. This would be our number one without a doubt if we thought that the majority of our audience could afford a juicer of this caliber, but because we know that the budget of our audience is usually between $100-$350, we have this at number five for best cold press juicers on the market.

The juicer is obviously slower than centrifugal juicers, but it is actually a lot quicker than many masticating juicers on the market. It has a double filter system and can deal with the really thick and leafy greens such as spinach or (even worse) kale!

You’re going to need to open it up and remove the parts etc to clean it by hand, but this isn’t any different to other masticating juicers out there. It’s fine, overall.

Where this juicer is (probably) better than any other model on the market is the quality of the juice, the yield of the juice, the power of the machine itself and the noise reduction technology it uses.

Yep – that’s a big sentence right there, but we could literally go on all day about how astonishing the Hurom is on all of those data points. It’s the cream of the crop. It will not let you down, and if you have the money – GET THIS JUICER.
